Buying guide
What size coffee table do I need?
Aim for a table about two-thirds the length of your sofa, and leave roughly 14-18" between the table and the seat for legroom. Match the height to your sofa cushions, give or take a couple of inches.
Round vs rectangular
A round coffee table softens a room and is safer in tight, high-traffic spaces; a rectangular table suits longer sofas and gives more surface for books and trays. Oval splits the difference.
What makes a coffee table mid-century
Tapered or hairpin legs, a warm walnut or oak tone, and a clean, low profile. Style it with a mid-century sofa and a couple of accent chairs. New to choosing one? Read our coffee table buying guide, or our guide to styling a mid-century living room.
